What’cha Playin’? – 5/5/16

Happy Cinco de Mayo for those who it applies to.

I’ve just been plugging away at the usual suspects. Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign, Rocket League, Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, and Zombi.

I also tried one of May’s PlayStation Plus titles, Table Top Racing: World Tour. It’s pretty neat, and when I need a Mario Kart style game, It can scratch that itch. While it doesn’t have the kind of personality Mario Kart has, it does have power ups that you can use to cruise your way to victory. I’ve only just begun, but it looks like there are weapons you can attach to your wheels too, that you can operate based on a cooldown. It’s a fun, combat racing game on a table top, and you can run into various obstacles, sending them all over the race track, such as oil bottles, bread rolls, and sushi. There are various challenges, such as time trial, and fastest lap challenges, but again, I’ve only scratched the surface. We’ll see how it hold up once I give it more of a chance. I just wish there was local multiplayer.

Starting today and going to the 9th is Overwatch’s open Beta on PS4. I’m looking forward to trying it out! I’ll get back to you about it tomorrow!

What’cha Playin’? 5/4/16

May the Fourth Be With You.

With the school semester winding down, I’ve had more time to put into games recently. Over the weekend, my friend and I played through Jet Grind Radio for Game Boy Advance on the principal of being huge JSR fans. I wasn’t a big fan of the GBA port and neither was he, but you can check out my review for it here.

I’ve also been playing bits and parts of Guilty Gear Xrd: Sign in anticipation for Revelator, and I have, of course, been squeezing in matches of Rocket League here and there. I’ve been doing pretty decent in Guilty Gear online too, I had an 8 win streak going the other day. I’m no combo expert, but I’m getting the hang of the higher level mechanics, slowly.

I also got pretty in to Zombi on the PS4. It’s a port of the the WiiU game ZombiU, but it’s pretty neat. It’s your standard first person zombie survivor game with a story, but one of my favorite mechanics is that when you die, you start over with a relatively empty inventory as a new (random) survivor. If you want to get your stuff back, you’ll have to return to where you died. If you were killed by another zombie, you’ll have to kill your last survivor. It’s definitely cool, and I think I’m getting near the end of it, so you may expect a review for it before long. It’s not my perfect zombie-survival game though; I’m still waiting for that fateful day.

I got a New 3DS as a belated birthday gift last weekend as well. The new stabilized 3D seems cool, and I’m looking forward to taking some Super Nintendo games around with me in my pocket, like Earthbound.

Lastly, I’ve been putting some time into Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars on my PlayStation Vita lately. Sometimes you just feel like a graphic novel/RPG. Well, sometimes I do anyway. It’s kind of like Persona in that you have time inside the dungeons to fight, and outside the dungeons to mingle with your friends and allies. Instead of summoning your inner psyche like Persona, you have “Star Children” with one (or more, usually more) of the seven heroines and they are your team members. It’s kind of strange, but pretty fun, and the presentation is great, so I’ll be sticking with it for a while.
